But ... I have a problem with training that employees are apparently not getting. What ever happened to thank you, or thank you for coming in, or thanks for shopping with us?!
Years ago, that was the norm at Johnsons. But now, the ONLY thank you I get at checkout is “thanks” when I round up for charity. If I forget to round up before pulling my card, then the conversation is over.
I feel compelled to say thank you when I check out, so I do. But what am I thanking them for?! Thank you for the privilege of shopping here (so you can be gainfully employed)?! It’s tough to drop my business etiquette, so I’ll continue to take the high road.
Not sure why this bothers me so much, it just does.
I think Jay, the original owner, may still be involved from time to time, so I hope he reads this and takes it to heart. I'd mention the new owner, but I haven't met him, or seen him in the store nearly as often as Jay. That meant a lot!
