Meet Ruby Rainbow
This is her story. She is a hand-blown glass fish who has brought so much fun to Maple Valley and the annual Fishing Derby. Former Councilor Linda Johnson purchased Ruby in 2006 to raffle her off with the proceeds going to the Chamber to purchase prizes for the fishing derby.
The winner of the first raffle was Kevin Patterson, Tahoma School District Director of Communications. In 2008 Kevin decided it was time to share Ruby with the community. He brought her to the Chamber luncheon in March and offered her as an auction item with the proceeds going again to help fund the prizes for the fishing derby.
Jim Flynn won the first auction. Since then, winners have included many Maple Valley residents and businesses. All in all, the auction of Ruby over the years has contributed more than $4,000.00 to the fishing derby for prizes. Ruby is one fish that doesn’t get thrown out after three days.
